Dry-Type Transformers
MTC employs over 100 skilled transformer craftsmen, technicians, engineers, and support personnel. We are singular in focus. We know transformers and have multiple capabilities — from small 1 KVA shipboard MIL specification isolation transformers built to 1940s vintage drawings, to the design of 4 MW traction-duty transformers for the world's largest transit authorities, to the logistics of rewinding a failed dry-type transformer on site on the 37th story of a downtown office building. We understand the applications and can design and supply the solution.
At MTC Transformers we offer a variety of Dry-Type transformer products including:

Overview
MTC’s dry-type transformers are produced in Wytheville, VA, a fully integrated manufacturing facility with inventory, coil winding, core stacking, sheet metal fabrication, assembly, testing, and shipping operations. By controlling all phases of the manufacturing process, we provide the industry’s best lead times for specialty dry-type transformers
We are experts in traction power and provide a broad range of unique products for the growing transit industry. We have been involved in transit projects throughout North America including projects in Seattle, New York City, and San Francisco. For a complete experience list click HERE. Our products include traction power transformers up to 34.5 KV, 175 KV BIL, interphase transformers, DC negative return reactors, and rolling stock. All of these products are designed for the unique requirements and demanding duty cycles required by the industry.
Our expertise extends beyond the transit industry to other rectifier applications. We manufacture generator excitation units (PPT’s) for utility replacement programs and new OEM excitation systems. We also provide drive isolation transformers for 12-, 18-, and 24-pulse drive applications.
MTC also provides specialty units for industrial and commercial applications. These products include low-profile mining transformers, multiple tap motor/generator test cells, and 600 V class secondary distribution units for shipboard use requiring military QPL listings.
MTC is a leader in the implementation of new technology. We utilize the latest Inventor series software to create mechanical layouts and enclosure designs with 3-D modeling. Our facilities are fully capable of providing required ANSI tests, including partial discharge, impulse, and temperature. Designs are verified as required through extensive internal and external programs that include short circuit, shock and vibration, and fire resistance testing.
MTC was built and operates on the principle of our basic corporate values. Pride in the products we offer is evident in the level of our craftsmanship, and the passion of our people is demonstrated in our commitment to customer service.
